Williamsburg, Iowa, situated along Old Man’s Creek just off I-80 in eastern Iowa, is a small town with a lot to offer. As the global headquarters for agricultural equipment company Kinze Manufacturing, the town has a robust economy. The population of about 3,400 is tight knit, and the town offers a variety of dining and entertainment options. 

Williamsburg was founded by Richard Williams, a Welsh sawmill owner, in 1854. Williams hoped that his new town would have close access to railroads. In 1860, the town got a post office, which was named “Stellapolis” after the post-master’s daughter. Williamsburg remained a small Welsh community until 1884 when the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad built a line running through Williamsburg. The town rapidly grew from 150 people to over 1,000 and was officially incorporated in 1885.

Today, Williamsburg is a thriving small town with a wide variety of destinations for visitors to check out. The Kinze Innovation Center is a free opportunity to learn about the company’s history and see tractors, plows and other machinery up close. It’s especially popular for families – adults can learn about history while kids explore the farm equipment.  

One of the town’s biggest draws is The Shops at Williamsburg, a large mall drawing shoppers from across eastern Iowa. The mall features more than 260,000 square feet of both outlets and traditional retail stores.  

Golf enthusiasts will enjoy Stone Creek Golf Club, regarded as one of the best nine-hole courses in America. Additionally, Williamsburg’s Town Square borders Central Park and is home to coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, yoga studios and more. The nearby city of Marengo offers live music and local gems like the Fireside Winery.
