Kansas City is a destination rich with history. Situated within 250 miles of both the population and geographic centers of the nation, it is often called “the Heart of America.” From 1804 – when Lewis and Clark first explored the area – to today, Kansas City has been on the cutting edge of progress. Did you know that Kansas City has more fountains than any other city in the world with the exception of Rome? The city also has more boulevards than any city except Paris and has often been called a “Paris on the Plains”. A young Ernest Hemingway worked as a cub reporter for the Kansas City Star in 1918, and upon returning to the city some years later, wrote the tragic ending to his World War I epic “A Farewell to Arms”. If you’re a history buff and would like to learn more about it, head to the Kansas City Museum website for information about programs and events held there.
